Wellness Exams

A pet wellness exam is a crucial part of proactive pet care. Typically conducted once a year, it involves a comprehensive head-to-tail examination of your pet. During the exam, Dr. Conway checks your pet’s eyes, ears, teeth, skin, coat, and overall body condition. She may recommend vaccinations, parasite prevention, and other preventive measures based on your pet’s age, breed, and lifestyle. Regular wellness checkups help catch health problems early, ensuring successful treatment and keeping your furry friend happy and healthy.

Vaccinations

Pet vaccinations are essential for maintaining your furry friend’s health. Regular vaccinations protect pets from contagious diseases and prevent outbreaks. Common vaccines include rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and feline leukemia. Consult Dr. Conway to create a vaccination schedule tailored to your pet’s needs. Vaccine prices range from $38-$60

Heartworm

Heartworm disease is a serious health concern for dogs and cats. It’s caused by parasitic worms (Dirofilaria immitis) transmitted through mosquito bites. These worms can grow in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, leading to severe health issues. Prevention is key and regular heartworm preventive medications are essential. The fee for routine yearly heartworm testing is $75 and includes testing for 3 tick borne diseases to include Lyme, Anaplasmosis and Ehrlichia.

Allergy Testing

Allergy testing in pets is commonly performed to determine if a pet has atopy, also known as atopic dermatitis or allergic inhalant dermatitis. This type of testing helps identify specific allergens triggering a pet’s allergy symptoms.

There are two main methods for allergy testing in pets:

  1. Intradermal Skin Testing: This involves injecting small amounts of common allergens under the skin to observe any reactions. It helps pinpoint the specific substances causing allergic responses.
  2. Serum Allergy Testing: A blood sample is taken and sent to a lab for analysis.

Dr. Conway performs Serum Allergy Testing and finds it useful when other options such as diet, oral and topical medications do not resolve the itch. Allergy testing poses minimal risk for pets, and the information gained from these tests is invaluable for managing allergies effectively. If you suspect your pet has allergies, consult Dr. Conway to explore testing options and create a tailored treatment plan.

Lab Work

Lab work for pets plays a crucial role in assessing their health and gathering essential information. Regular lab work, especially for senior pets, can reveal underlying issues and guide timely interventions. Routine lab work to included CBC, complete chemistry and urinalysis should be performed yearly especially in geriatric pets. Lab work is performed through Antech Diagnostic Lab and prices start at $90.

Sickness Exams

When it comes to sick exams, Dr. Conway will perform a thorough evaluation to diagnose and treat the specific health issue. During a sick patient exam, she spends time examining the pet and discussing its history. Depending on the issue, additional testing may be recommended, such as bloodwork, fecal testing, urinalysis, x-rays, or ultrasounds. Regular wellness checkups are essential for catching problems early and maintaining your pet’s health. For adult pets, annual wellness exams are usually sufficient, while some senior pets benefit from visits every six months.
